he paparazzi can be pesky, intrusive, and sleazy–but If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em right? Instead of getting pissed off about the paps following his every move, Ryan Phillippe has found a way to use them for his advantage.

Phillippe has started wearing t-shirts with the website addresses of various charities he’s involved with, so when the pictures appear online and in magazines, the charity gets free publicity worldwide.

He says, “These pictures go around the world and untold numbers of people see them. One organization told me their web hits went up 2,000% overnight after one such image was syndicated.”

Way to go Ryan, let’s get some more celebs on this bandwagon!

Ryan Phillippe fears his worries about the paparazzi have given his daughter Ava a nervous disposition.

The actor - who is father to Ava, eight, and son Deacon, four, with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon - admits he often became angry and snapped at photographers when they tried to take pictures of his daughter when she was a baby.

And Philippe is convinced his fearful reactions have had a negative affect on his little girl.

He says: “She’s aware and it creates in her a lot of anxiety, which is partly my fault. When Ava was very young, I’d get visibly angry with the paparazzi back then.

“She was my first child and my instinct was to protect her. I think the attitude I had at the time did create in her a lot of the fearfulness she has today.”

But Phillippe is relieved that his anxieties did not rub on Ava’s younger brother, Deacon.

He adds: “Mainly because since his birth I’ve realised that you’ve got to make it seem like less of a big deal.”

CRASH star RYAN PHILLIPPE credits Hollywood legend PAUL NEWMAN with giving him the impetus to become an actor.
The 33-year-old was undecided about his career path until he watched Newman in 1967 film Cool Hand Luke.
He says, “I didn’t want a small life. I wanted to experience something different. I aspired to that even without knowing how to achieve it.
“I remember being fascinated and inspired by his (Newman’s) performance.”

Ryan Phillippe admits that he was not prepared for the whirlwind of attention that would follow marrying Reese Witherspoon.

Phillippe, 33, speaking to Britain’s The Times Magazine while promoting his Iraq war film, Stop-Loss, refused to talk about his friendship with costar Abbie Cornish but he did hint at the problems of a high-profile marriage.

“I fooled myself into believing it would be easier than it was. To have people speculating constantly about the state of your relationship, casting aspersions and telling lies … It took more of a toll than I was immediately aware of,” he told the magazine.

A downside of the fame, he revealed to the Times, was an attitude toward photographers that has rubbed off on daughter Ava. “She’s aware and it creates in her a lot of anxiety, which is partly my fault. When Ava was very young, I was young too. I’d get … visibly angry at the paparazzi back then,” he said. “She was my first child, and my instinct was to protect her.”

Ava to this day, though … It breaks my heart to think about it, hearing her say, ‘My friends at school saw a picture of me in a magazine and they made fun because I was carrying a blanket.’ ”

Still, Phillippe has found a way to use the attention for good purposes – by wearing shirts with charity Web sites he supports, such as Children’s Defense and Africare, “because these pictures go around the world and untold numbers of people see them. One organization told me their web hits went up 2,000 percent overnight after one such image was syndicated.”
